Earlier this week Oscar De La Hoya teased his fans by saying that he might come back to fight UFC Star Conor McGregor in a Boxing match, now people want the fight and odds-makers have even given their views.
Before Floyd Mayweather fought Conor McGregor the odds-makers said that it was a guaranteed win for Mayweather, they got that correct. However now they say that a fight between 44 year old De La Hoya and 29 year old McGregor will be too much for the UFC Star, yes you heard that correct, a MMA fighter with a BoxRec score of 0-1 would not only beat but do damage to Oscar De La Hoya, an aging but experienced Boxer.
They have said that McGregor will be too much for De La Hoya inside the boxing ring. This all started after De La Hoya called out McGregor on Monday, saying he’ll knock him out in 2 rounds at the most.
“I’ve been coaching secretly, training secretly, and I’m faster than ever and stronger than ever… I know I can beat Conor McGregor in two rounds. I’ll be back for that fight, two rounds, and just one more, two rounds. That’s all I need, that’s all I’m going to say,” said De La Hoya to Golden Boy Radio.
McGregor is the favorite by the line -160 to De La Hoya’s +130, according to ESPN Deportes.
The last time De La Hoya fought was in 2008 when he was beaten like a Heavy bag by Manny Pacquiao and the fight was stopped early. Either De La Hoya is seriously confident that he can come back for one last fight and beat McGregor or he is just looking for another big pay day.
Either way the only way that boxing fans will take De La Hoya seriously is if he beats a relevant boxer and shows he still has what it takes, otherwise it is unlikely that a potential fight between De La Hoya and McGregor would be taken seriously by anyone. So far McGregor hasn’t shown any interest in fighting De La Hoya.
At the moment it looks like De La Hoya is trying to make a fight off the back of Mayweather vs McGregor which took place on August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.
If this fight was to happen McGregor could have a chance of winning, why? Because De La Hoya is no Mayweather. De La Hoya cannot defend like Mayweather and therefore if McGregor was to connect with some hard punches early on then 44-year-old De La Hoya would definitely feel it.
At the moment this hypothetical fight looks like it will not happen as McGregor is waiting for a rematch with Mayweather whilst Mayweather says that he is retired for good and has nothing left to prove as a Boxer.
